live your best life

Who are you?

Bobbi Rebell is a CFP (certified financial planner), the host of the “Financial Grownup Podcast”, and best-selling author of the self-help personal finance book “How to Be a Financial Grownup: Proven Advice from High Achievers on How to Live Your Dreams and Have Financial Freedom.”  She is also a keynote speaker, conference MC, brand ambassador, and an award-winning TV anchor and personal finance columnist. She’s also a firm believer in accomplishing your goals to live your best life.

What are some of your tips for those who want to create content for their own business?

Bobbi says to start with your intention. If you want to grow your business, or thought leadership, or podcast, whatever it may be, set your intention. But also, be realistic about your expectations. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you’re first starting out. For Bobbi, it was easier to create a quick podcast on personal finance that helped the evolving grown up financially, and not to do the same thing everyone else was doing.

How can people be unique in delivering their content?

Part of trying to live your best life includes being who you are. Bobbi believes that you should embrace your uniqueness and strengths, and to realize that even your weaknesses could be considered strengths if you use them correctly. Bobbi knows that people love a story, so tell yours.

What would you say to someone trying to get their foot in the door?

Bobbi says to get used to rejection. There will be a lot of nos before you start hearing more yeses. However, you shouldn’t take it personally. People are busy, or may not see your efforts to connect at first. But that doesn’t mean you should give up. Want to live your best life? Keep pushing, keep asking, keep popping up, and keep responding. Eventually, all of the nos will turn into yeses. Play the long game. And remember to be polite.

What are some productivity hacks that you use for producing content?

Bobbi says the first step is to look at your life first and be realistic about what you can put out and why. Once you know what’s going on, prioritize and put the most important priorities on your calendar to block out time to work on them. Bobbi also recommends batching, as it can help when you’re super busy with other work or personal life obligations.

How did your corporate experience help you in what it is that you’re doing now?

Bobbi’s most important learning experience was to keep one foot out of the door when you’re at a corporate job. Don’t be afraid to have other experiences, or side hustle, or whatever will allow you to leave your job or pick up if you lose your job. And sometimes, opportunity knocks, so if you want to live your best life, you can’t feel stuck in what you’re doing. Keeping one foot out of the door keeps you from feeling that way.

Along with keeping one foot out of the door, don’t be afraid to take advantage of what the company has to offer. Bobbi is a huge advocate for free education and taking advantage of opportunities like tuition reimbursement, investing in a 401(k), and using whatever the company has to offer to your advantage.

What is the one money tip you have for the listeners?

Bobbi’s tip would be to take advantage of everything you can learn for free or for cheap. If it’s going to help you live your best life, take advantage of it.

How do you make money your honey?

Bobbi makes money her honey by being respectful of money and valuing it. She believes it’s important to acknowledge that money is important because money does matter. For Bobbi, it represents security, freedom, and increased opportunities.
