purpose

Welcome to Biz Tip Thursday! In this week’s segment we’re going to be covering a HUGE topic in the entrepreneurial space – how to find your purpose!

The reason I’m covering this is because I do a lot of Make Money Your Honey discovery calls and sometimes I find that people really aren’t clear on what they actually want to do. And if they say they are clear on what they want, they usually aren’t clear on the why.

What are your dreams?

The first step in getting clear on your purpose is to figure out how you want to live your life. Most people are told they can’t have things growing up, but the truth is our wants and desires are there for a reason. Our desires have something to do with our purpose in life, so it would be a good idea to follow them.

You don’t need some super detailed vision either. When I first started it was a simple as, “I want to travel and I want flexibility with my time.” I’ve gotten more detailed about what that looks like over time.

Here are some common reasons why people want their own businesses:

  • Travel
  • Flexibility
  • Time with family
  • Toxic work environments
  • They feel like they can make more money on their own

What’s your big why?

After you’ve figured out your personal why, it’s time to figure out the BIGGER why. The truth is if you just focus on yourself or on the money – and you’re not interested in helping people – then you’re really going to struggle in entrepreneurship.

After you’ve figured out what your personal desires are, then it’s time to determine your big why. This can basically be summed up in two questions:

  • What problem are you trying to solve and for who?
  • Why does it matter to you so much?

For example, I’m trying to help millennials become financiall free. Why? Because this is an area where I’ve personally had a lot of healing so I know I can help. Additionally, I know the kind of positive ripple effect it can have on someone’s life.

If someone cultivates a positive relationship to money their whole lives change. I’ve seen the changes in my own life as well as in the lives of clients. That has a ripple effect throughout their environment which can ultimately change the world.
