Stats on Follow Up

Before we dive into the different ways to do sales follow up, let’s first discuss the stats on sales follow up. Only 2 percent of sales are closed on the first contact. It takes an average of 7 to 11 touches to bring a deal to the finish line. In addition, most businesses are not following up enough. Most business owners and sales people give up after the first sales follow up.

Challenges With Sales FollowUp Call Scripts

One of the challenges people experience with sales follow up is they simply don’t have an organized system or process to do it. We teach more of this in Persuade to Profit sales training program, but we’ll briefly discuss it here.

In order to get good at sales follow up, you need to be organized. You also need to have different ways of following up with people rather than the basic “Hey, just checking in.”

First, we recommend having some sort of a client relationship manager to stay organized with the follow up and workflow. While you should automate some of it to save time, please note that you should also combine that with personal touches such as text, video and calls.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about some sales follow up call scripts you can use to convert unsold coaching clients.

Sales Call Follow Up Scripts: Client Win

One of my favorite ways to do follow ups is to share a huge client win. That will sound something like this:

“Hey, I remember you were struggling with X. We just helped our client accomplish Y and I know we can do that for you too.”


Sales Follow Up Call Scripts: Videos

YouTube videos are fantastic for sales follow up. It’s one of the reasons why we’re really working on developing our YouTube channel. If we know a prospect is struggling with a specific issue we will either turn it into a new video (yay marketing!) or if the video covering their issue already exists we will send it to them. The message may sound something like this:

“Hey (name),  you mentioned you were struggling with X. I (or name of company) put out a video on YouTube to help you solve the problem and I wanted to make sure you have it. (Insert link). This is just the tip of the ice berg of what you get when you work with us. How about we go ahead and get you signed up?”


Sales Follow Up Call Scripts: Challenge Them

This requires some finesse and major confidence on your part. Admittedly, it doesn’t always work but some people do appreciate the directness.  People have a lot of excuses about why they can’t do things and sometimes they need to be challenged on their own BS. If you’re speaking with a prospect for the millioneth time and you know they are kicking the can down the road, you may say something like this:

“You and I have been having this discussion for months. We both know this solves your problem and you are kicking the can down the road. Are we going to do this or not? Because I have about X more people to reach out to, the spots are limited and you’ll be locked out for six months.”
